About Intimate Ecology
I’m Moira Bradfield Strydom (she/her), Founder of Intimate Ecology, PhD, Naturopath and Educator with over 20 years clinical experience. I have a passion for helping people experience optimal health in sustainable and sensible ways.
I offer 1:1 clinical consultation to work with you on your genitourinary health. This approach encompasses holistic health principles. Assessing through thorough questioning and when appropriate functional testing key areas of your health that are contributing to your presentation. I want to know what is happening to you that is impacting the presentation.
Did you know that the foundations of good genitourinary health (vagina, bladder, penis) is not isolated to only the genitalia? Sure, ensuring that you don’t have unhealthy symptoms is important but creating balance in the helpful microbial colonies that inhabit the genitourinary spaces can influence everything from menstruation, urinary health, lubrication and sexual enjoyment, fertility outcomes and pregnancy as well as cellular health from the
vulva to the cervix (and perhaps beyond). To do this we need to consider whole body health. This includes your hormones, nervous system health, gastrointestinal function, immune function, diet, lifestyle and what makes you YOU.
How do I make the changes?
I understand that life is busy, I understand that sometimes getting through the day to day overrides self care.
When we work together we not only spend time finding out what makes you tick and what could be influencing your health but we also negotiate an approach that you can achieve, one that will help you move towards a better state of health. This is a tailored approach that comes from a personal consultation. Not a quick internet cure or over the counter treatment. I work with herbal and nutritional medicine, lifestyle medicine and support you in accessing other inidcated health interventions. I also complement standard medical treatment where it is needed, believeing that pursuing only holistic or only pharmaceutical interventions mean we miss the best of any approach that could support you to wellbeing. I work with you and what you are comfortable with in terms of specialsists and treatments.
We judge progress over monthly cycles. Often people have had these issues for months if not years. Breaking recurrent cycles doesnt happen instantly. It requires tweaking many aspects of your overall health.
How do I know what I’m talking about?
In my 20 + years of clinical practice I have seen many people who were finding that the treatment they were prescribed or purchased for their intimate health issues didn’t work for long enough.
The numbers of people who were presenting in clinic with vaginal and genitourinary imbalance (dysbiosis) was astounding. I wanted to make sure I was helping them in the best way I could. This ignited my special interest in vaginal health and the vaginal microbiome. I became fascinated, obsessed with reading everything I can get my hands on which led me completeing PhD studies in the area of the vaginal microbiome and conditions of vaginal dysbiosis (recurrent thrush). Working with the vaginal microbiome and vaginal health has opened the doors in other important areas of bladder, urinary health and penile health. I know have an appreciation and understanding of so many areas in genitourinary health that are often overlooked.
I have completed a PhD in the area of Recurrent Vulvovaginal Candidiasis through Griffith University and hold a Bachelor of Naturopathy and a Masters of Acupuncture from Southern Cross University, Australia.
